Join me for the May 18, 2020, edition of After Hours on KCAW Raven Radio as I’m joined in conversation with guest artist Sheila Jordan.

Sheila is an American jazz singer and songwriter. She has recorded as a session musician with an array of critically acclaimed artists in addition to recording her own albums. Sheila pioneered a bebop and scat jazz singing style with an upright bass as the only accompaniment. Her music has earned praise from many critics, particularly for her ability to improvise lyrics.

Scott Yanow describes her as “one of the most consistently creative of all jazz singers.” Charlie Parker often introduced Jordan as “the singer with the million dollar ears.”

After Hours featuring Artt Frank, air date April 20, 2020

Join me for the April 20, 2020, edition of After Hours on KCAW Raven Radio as I’m joined in conversation with bop drummer/composer, Artt Frank.

Artt is one of the few authentic bop musicians on the scene today. He is best known for his long-term association with trumpet player Chet Baker, with whom he worked on and off for 14 years. He has also worked with Jimmy Heath, Al Cohn, Ted Curson, Sonny Stitt, Phil Moore and many others, including one memorable night with Billie Holiday. He also sat in on several occasions with Charlie Parker, Lee Morgan, Tadd Dameron, Dexter Gordon and Bud Powell.
