After Hours featuring Marc Johnson, air date March 15, 2023

Join me at 9 p.m. on March 15, 2023, for the next edition of After Hours on KRBD Rainbird Radio as I’m joined in conversation with jazz bass player, composer, and band leader Marc Johnson.

Marc was born in Nebraska in 1953, and he grew up in Texas. By age 19, he was working professionally with the Fort Worth Symphony, and while at North Texas State University, he played and recorded with fellow student Lyle Mays.

After graduating he toured and recorded with Woody Herman, before becoming, at the age of 25, the bassist with the Bill Evans Trio, following in the footsteps of masterful players including Scott La Faro, Gary Peacock and Eddie Gomez.

Marc’s many recording credits since then include discs with Michael Brecker, Bob Brookmeyer, Gary Burton, Jack DeJohnette, Eliane Elias, Peter Erskine, Bill Frisell, Stan Getz, Joe Lovano, Lyle Mays, Pat Metheny, Ben Monder, Paul Motian, Enrico Pieranunzi, and Wolfgang Muthspiel, among others.

Join me for the Nov. 9, 2020, edition of After Hours on KCAW Raven Radio as I’m joined in conversation with multiple Grammy winning record producer, musician/songwriter/label executive Larry Klein.

Larry has produced artists like Joni Mitchell, Melody Gardot, Madeleine Peyroux, Wayne Shorter, Esperanza Spalding, Norah Jones and so many more. He started out playing jazz bass with Freddie Hubbard and Carmen McRae in the 70’s. You don’t want to miss this exclusive interview.

After Hours featuring Ron Carter, air date Feb. 3, 2020

Join me for the Feb. 3, 2020, edition of After Hours on KCAW Raven Radio as I’m joined in conversation with the great American jazz double bassist, Ron Carter.

His appearances on 2,221 recording sessions make him the most recorded jazz bassist in history. Ron is also a cellist who has recorded numerous times on that instrument. He was a member of the Miles Davis Quintet in the mid 1960s, which also included pianist Herbie Hancock, saxophonist Wayne Shorter and drummer Tony Williams.

He was elected to the Downbeat Jazz Hall of Fame in 2012. In 1993, Ron won a Grammy Award for Best Jazz Instrumental Group and another Grammy in 1998 for an instrumental composition for the film “Round Midnight.” Be sure to tune into this incredible and unforgettable conversation.

After Hours featuring Christian Fabian, air date Nov. 18, 2019

Join me for the Nov. 18, 2019, edition of After Hours on KCAW Raven Radio as I’m joined in conversation with jazz bassist Christian Fabian.

Christian was born in Sweden and moved to the U.S in the 90’s to attend Berklee College. He is currently active in the New York scene, playing with Mike Longo’s NY State of the Art Jazz Ensemble and around the metro area. He is a co-leader of the New Lionel Hampton Band featuring Jason Marsalis.

Christian has become one of the best-regraded bassists on the U.S jazz scene today. When not in New York or out on tour, Christian can be found in Sitka, where he frequently teaches at the Sitka Fine Arts Camp. He also is a member of the Native Jazz Quartet with Ed Littlefield of Sitka, Jason Marsalis and Reuel Lubag.
